Why can't I install the Premiumize.me TV app on my Fire TV device?

In 2025, Amazon announced major changes to its Fire TV devices. New Fire TV devices (such as the popular Fire TV Stick) will no longer come with the established Fire OS operating system, but instead with Vega OS. In October 2025, the Fire TV Stick 4K Select—the first device running Vega OS—was released.

What is the difference between Fire OS and Vega OS?

While Fire OS is based on Android and Android apps could generally be installed via sideloading, Vega OS is a closed operating system. This means you can’t install your own apps. Your selection is limited to the apps available in the Amazon App Store.

Can I continue to use my old Fire TV device?

Yes, that is generally possible. However, Amazon is already beginning to restrict sideloading in this area as well. Starting in November 2025, the first apps were blocked. These apps cannot be installed or launched. Currently, this mainly affects media apps that distribute illegal content. Therefore, the Premiumize.me TV app can still be installed and used without restriction. However, it is unclear whether Amazon will further restrict sideloading.

What do we recommend:

If you're looking for a new media player, we strongly advise against Amazon devices. Aside from the significantly limited selection in the Amazon App Store, many users report that Vega OS is still far from mature. You cannot use Premiumize.me at all on Amazon devices running Vega OS, or only to a very limited extent. We do not currently support these devices.

In general, we recommend streaming boxes based on Android TV or Google TV. This makes it easy for you to download the latest Premiumize.me TV app from the Play Store. Don’t worry—you can find affordable options in this category as well.
